About

We are driven by the desire to empower the artists, who will empower the people.

The New Works Festival is a student driven movement to empower young artists. New Works serves as the only avenue on the CalArts campus for students to obtain agency and showcase their original work. This year, the New Works committee hopes to expand the scope and scale of our festival encouraging more students to participate.

In the past two years New Works has evolved into a powerful venue for students to explore the endless possibilities of what art is, and how art can be made. Run by five students, the festival encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, explorative processes, and immersive risk-taking. We expanded the festival from four days to three weeks, accepting 52 projects compared to what had traditional been a 10 show festival. Directly and indirectly we touched the entire institute and mobilized a group of over 200 artists.

New Works is a festival run by the students for the students. A time to celebrate the artistic potential of the student body, New Works encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, explorative processes, and immersive risk-taking.
